2022 Band Camp Information

Welcome Southerners!

Greetings From Dr. B

Hello Marching Southerners and new members!

2022 has already gotten off to a great start for our beloved band program! Considering the announcement that The Marching Southerners had received the Sudler trophy for 2022 and have also been invited to perform at the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France in 2024, members and staff are ecstatic beyond words!

“One Giant Leap,” the 2022 production, has the potential to become one of the band’s most memorable shows. We are all looking forward to band camp and getting started on this show. Please carefully read the information below for important dates and audition information.

  • First, complete the Band Camp registration form. This is important so that we know how many members are interested in marching in the Fall. BAND CAMP REGISTRATION FORM
  • You will be required to submit a video audition for the music portion of the audition if you are a woodwind or brass player. Your video (music) audition will be combined with a marching/visual audition at band camp for your overall audition score. Click HERE for details.
  • Download the stand music at www.marchingsoutherners.org/music. If you are a new member, start learning all of the stand music and committing it to memory over the summer break.

There will be a Woodwind Day and a Brass Day this summer. Woodwind Day is June 18. Brass Day is July 9.

The hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  These “summer sectionals” are NOT mandatory. Every year, we host Woodwind Day and Brass Day so that everyone can play the music together, receive instruction, and socialize! Additionally, it will give you a sense of what you need to work on before band camp.

If you plan on auditioning for The Marching Southerners, everyone (including vets) MUST register and attend band camp. We will use the registration numbers to determine how many spots we should include in the drill. You must register before July 1, 2022, if you plan to attend band camp and audition for the band.  When considering candidates for positions, anyone registering after July 1, 2022, will be given the lowest priority. You can register for camp online by clicking here. Please read the “Things to Know” section of the newsletter for information on camp dates, schedules, housing, fees, meals, etc.

  • Vets and New Members must check into the dorms on August 5th from 9 a.m.-Noon if you plan on living in a dorm for camp, or for the school year.
  • If you are staying in housing temporarily, you will move out by 12 noon on August 12th.
  • Rookie Camp and JSU drumline – August 5th & 6th
  • Meals will be offered at the Jack Hopper Dining Hall for $10. This is an “all you care to eat” experience, and is great value for your money.

FULL Southerners Camp – August 7-23 (No rehearsal on Aug. 13, 14, 20, 21)

I offer a sincere welcome to everyone who will be joining the Marching Southerners for the first time. You are about to embark on a life-changing experience. You will find Southerners band camp to be one of the most enjoyable band camps that you have ever experienced. The atmosphere is very positive, and we accomplish a great deal every day. As you prepare for camp, try to stay in good shape and eat as healthy as possible over the summer months.

Your directors and staff are busy preparing for the Southerners 2022 production, “One Giant Leap.” You are going to love performing this show. I look forward to seeing this show come to life.

Be safe, stay healthy, and register for band camp today!

From the Drum Majors

Hello Southerners! The leadership team would love to welcome everyone to the upcoming 2022-2023 season! We are truly excited to begin this season with new faces and an outstanding show. This season will be “one giant leap” towards new experiences, friendships, and opportunities.

Our 2022 production, “One Giant Leap”, is a musical celebration of wonder, determination, and the never-ending quest for progress. This production was inspired by all of the achievements the Marching Southerners have attained thus far.

Our musical selections are taking leaps and bounds to create an atmosphere of transformation. Each selection highlights key points of our achievements by using music from Strauss, Bhatia, Kelly, Holst, Giacchino, and Menken.

We cannot wait to see the progress we make together as a family with this show. Take this opportunity with us to explore your horizons as a Marching Southerner on our field. See you there and BLOW SOUTHERNERS!!
