Hello Marching Southerners!
What a year 2020 was for us. With us all facing a new normal of practicing social distancing and isolation, the 2021 Marching Southerners Band Camp will be an amazing REUNION for us all! I look forward to seeing all of the returning vets as well as all of our new members!
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we have had to alter our plans with auditions for the drum line, marching ballerinas and the color guard. If you are interested in trying out for one of those sections, please click the link below that pertains to your particular section of interest! (Please keep in mind that all dates may change due to the Coronavirus situation).
For all of the woodwinds and brass players we are planning to move forward as we always have in the past. Please complete the Band Camp registration form so that we will expect you for Band Camp. This is important to ensure that you will have a spot on the field, and so that we know how many members will be marching in the Fall.
Also, everyone can download the stand music at www.marchingsoutherners.org/music/ If you are a new member, please start learning all of the stand music and committing it to memory over the summer break.
We have Woodwind Day and a Brass Day scheduled for this summer. Woodwind Day is June 26th. Brass Day is July 10th. Both of these days will be from 9-4. Remember these “summer sectionals” are NOT mandatory. We hold Woodwind Day and Brass Day so that everyone can play through the music together, receive musical instruction, and socialize! Also, it will give you an idea of what you may need to work on before band camp. (Again, please keep in mind that all dates may change due to the Coronavirus situation).
Everyone (including vets) MUST register and attend band camp if you plan to audition for The Marching Southerners. We will be using the registration numbers as a guide for how many spots we should include in the drill. If you plan to attend band camp and want to audition for the band, you must register prior to July 1, 2021.
Anyone registering after July 1, 2021 will be given lowest priority when considering people for the positions. You can register for camp online by clicking here. Please read the “Things to Know” section of the newsletter for information on camp dates, schedules, housing, fees, meals, etc.
